The best painting holiday for 2026 is not a universal winner. A beginner seeking confidence, an experienced painter developing new work and a solo traveller wanting a hosted group may need different things. The useful comparison is between the programme and your priorities.
Decide whether painting is central
Some trips are conventional holidays with an optional art activity. Others are structured courses in a destination. A considered painting retreat sits between those extremes: tuition is protected, but there is also time to absorb the place, rest and connect with the group.
Read the itinerary carefully. Count actual tuition sessions rather than assuming every day is a painting day. Look for demonstrations, individual feedback and independent working time.
Match the teaching to your level
“All levels” is credible when the group is manageable and the tutor explains how teaching adapts. Beginners need foundations and reassurance. Returning painters often need help identifying habits. A destination earns its place in a painting holiday when its visual culture and daily rhythm inform the teaching.

Compare accommodation, room occupancy, meals, tuition, materials, transfers and activities. Then add flights, insurance and personal spending. Read cancellation and payment terms before committing. A transparent offer makes it possible to compare fairly without relying on the headline price.
Consider the social structure
Solo guests often want connection without constant group activity. Look for shared points in the day—painting, meals or visits—alongside unscheduled time. If you have access, dietary or energy considerations, ask how the accommodation and programme work in practice rather than relying on general assurances.

Morocco and future European journeys
Reconnect Journeys’ current bookable painting holiday is the Marrakech atmospheric watercolour retreat, 11–17 October 2026.
