Artist-led creative travel

Painting retreats with time to look properly

Small-group watercolour holidays shaped around expert teaching, distinctive places and an unhurried rhythm. Learn through demonstration and observation, whether you are opening a paintbox for the first time or refining an established practice.

What is a painting retreat?

Tuition, place and breathing room

A good painting retreat is more than a course moved to a beautiful location. The destination should influence what you notice and make, while the programme gives you enough structure to progress without turning every hour into a lesson.

Reconnect Journeys brings those elements together through mixed-level teaching, professional materials, considered accommodation and cultural experiences connected to the visual character of each place.

01

Artist-led

Programmes are developed with practising artists whose teaching grows from their own close observation and studio experience.

02

Beginner-friendly

Clear demonstrations and individual feedback help complete beginners start well while experienced painters keep their independence.

03

Small groups

Around 10–12 guests on the current Marrakech retreat allows time for questions, feedback and genuine group connection.

04

Rooted in place

Architecture, colour, craft, food and daily rhythms are treated as creative material, not just scenery.

05

Materials considered

The confirmed Marrakech programme includes professional painting materials, reducing the need to travel with a portable studio.

06

Space to absorb

Focused painting days sit alongside cultural visits, rest and time to notice what makes a destination visually distinct.

Choosing well

What to compare before you book

Start with the teaching, not only the destination photograph. Look for a named tutor, a clear description of the daily practice and enough information to understand how mixed levels are supported.

Teaching and group size

Ask how many tuition days are included, whether materials are provided and how much individual feedback is realistic. Smaller groups do not guarantee better teaching, but they can make conversation and demonstration easier.

What the price includes

Compare accommodation, meals, transfers, materials and cultural visits on the same basis. Flights, travel insurance and personal spending are not included in the Marrakech programme, while six nights at Riad Deluxe, professional materials, selected meals, cultural visits, a hammam and scheduled airport transfers are included.

Pace and place

A crowded itinerary can make sustained work difficult. Four tuition days in Marrakech are balanced with cultural exploration and time to observe. Flowers, fruit, ornament and architecture become practical ways to study colour, volume, pattern, perspective and atmosphere.

Your experience level

You do not need an established portfolio to join a thoughtful retreat. Beginners benefit from clear foundations; returning painters may value fresh subjects, critique and protected time. The important question is whether the programme explains how it serves both without promising the same outcome to everyone.

Meet the artist

A supportive approach to atmospheric watercolour

Jurga teaches through demonstration, attentive observation and individual feedback. Her aim is to help each painter understand colour, light, composition and atmosphere without forcing the group into one visual style.

Her current Marrakech programme welcomes complete beginners as well as experienced painters. Professional materials are supplied, and the week moves from foundations towards more complex studies of pattern and architecture.
